Verdict

Neutonic Brain Capsules falls short.

Caffeine-free nootropic capsules from UK brand Neutonic. Three capsules give 500mg citicoline (as Cognizin®), 400mg rhodiola extract, 300mg Bacopa monnieri extract (55% bacosides), 200mg Panax ginseng extract and 120mg ginkgo biloba extract, plus eight B vitamins. Citicoline and bacopa meet our reference doses; ginkgo is half our 240mg reference dose, the rhodiola extract states no standardisation, and we have no reference dose on file for ginseng.

What it does

Neutonic Brain Capsules are the caffeine-free capsule version of Neutonic's formula, sold on neutonic.com's US store. The vendor describes them as its core formula (Cognizin®, rhodiola, Panax ginseng and eight B vitamins) plus two additions, Bacopa monnieri and ginkgo biloba. A bottle holds 90 capsules, 30 daily servings of 3; the vendor says the capsules can be taken together or spread through the day, with or without food. The other ingredients listed are rice hull concentrate, a hypromellose capsule, silica, magnesium stearate and dicalcium phosphate; the vitamin blend lists thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate (as calcium 5-methyltetrahydrofolate), vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin), biotin and pantothenic acid, which the vendor's panel gives as 100% of the reference intake (RI). The vendor says the capsules are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

How it works

Citicoline (500mg, as Cognizin®) is a precursor to acetylcholine and phosphatidylcholine; its memory evidence comes from older adults with inefficient memory at 1,000-2,000mg a day (Spiers 1996), and a Cochrane review found no evidence of an attention benefit in older adults with chronic cerebral disorders. Bacopa (300mg, 55% bacosides) has the most memory evidence here: two 12-week trials in healthy older adults improved delayed word recall at 300mg a day (Calabrese 2008; Morgan & Stevens 2010), though the newest 12-week trial at that dose (Lopresti 2025) found no effect on verbal learning, attention or working memory. The positive ginkgo trials were in dementia, mainly at 240mg a day of the EGb 761 extract for 22-26 weeks (Tan 2015 meta-analysis); this product has 120mg with no standardisation on the product page, and the GEM trial found no preventive effect on dementia in people aged 75 and over. Rhodiola is an adaptogen: small trials of the SHR-5 extract found less mental fatigue, but a 2012 systematic review rated every included study at high or unclear risk of bias, and the product page does not say which extract or standardisation is used. We have no reference dose on file for Panax ginseng. Brain Capsules themselves have not been tested in a published trial; the vendor's claims rest on ingredient-level research.

What to expect

Brain Capsules are built for daily use rather than a quick effect: the vendor recommends taking them every day for at least 30 days to experience the full benefits, and the positive bacopa memory trials ran for 12 weeks. There is no caffeine, so the timing is flexible, and the vendor says they can be taken alongside its caffeinated Productivity Drink. Take 3 capsules a day. Our bacopa page notes digestive effects (increased stool frequency, abdominal cramps, nausea) at 300mg a day in a 12-week trial in older adults, so taking the capsules with food may help. In the US a bottle costs $49.99 one-time for 90 capsules (30 servings, $1.67 a serving) or $42.49 a delivery on a subscription (15% off, delivered every 4, 6, 8 or 12 weeks), checked 2026-10-15. Standard US shipping starts at $5.00 and is free on orders over $75 (per neutonic.com's US shipping page, checked 2026-10-15).
